Make the most of the post-Christmas house hunting surge

Ben Roberts

By Ben Roberts,

Most people think the property market is quiet over Christmas, but in terms of getting your property seen, it’s one of the most popular time periods!

Don’t panic though! We aren’t suggesting buyers should view your property on Boxing Day, we mean that web traffic on property websites is ski high!

Rightmove have released data that shows the period between Christmas and New Year is actually one of the busiest times for their website. Last year Rightmove saw a 231% increase in traffic between Christmas Day and January 2nd, with the 30th December being the month’s busiest day.

Why the increase?

From what we know about our customers, they usually want to get Christmas out of the way before they make the plunge to buy a new property or think about selling their own, but interest peaks soon after the 25th December so they could be missing a trick.

It is also a time of year when couples and families have time off together to make grand plans, and with the weather keeping people indoors, they are motivated to head online to start their property search.

I’m sure all those new phones, tablets and computers that were unwrapped on Christmas Day helps keep people online too!

Sell Sell Sell!

If you are thinking about selling your house early next year then now is the time to get your property online to ensure it gets in front of all those potential buyers.

Selling a home in sunnier months has its benefits, but from our experience when viewers step into a beautiful, warm, cosy home on a bitterly cold January day, it seems even more appealing! We would still recommend viewings happen in the daylight hours to show off the house's full potential.

As many people tend to wait until spring to sell, at that time of year there will be more for buyers to choose from and less demand for sellers over that period. This is another reason to get listed now, ready for January viewings. It’s all about getting ahead of the crowd so that your property is on people’s hit list ready to view from the 2nd January.

Let Keystone make your property visible online in time for this busy period. We can ensure it has the right photos and details to ignite buyers' interest.
